Let's get right into it –  we're going to rank the best support champs to carry you through the 2024 ranked season, both for lower tiers and apex, let's get right into it!

According to statistics, the support champions that are best to climb up with in Season 14 are; Janna, Taric, Sona, Braum, and Blitzcrank. Time to speak of the advantages and disadvantages of these champions with a quick introduction to them:

Janna

The Lady of the Winds has been on top of the charts with her win rate since season 13. Its disengage potential and capability to rotate all around the map makes her an outstanding risk factor for everyone facing it.

Advantages

  • Outstanding movement speed and high chances of being everywhere in time.
  • Has slow, knock up, shielding, healing, and pushing away enemies in her skillset.

Taric

The gems… Taric with his unique gameplay and design always has been a hidden meta pick. With the current state of items and game design, he is finally getting the attention he deserves and as the player count of Taric increased, he got himself on top of the charts!

Advantages

  • Outstanding early game damage.
  • Unlimited healing as long as the champion has enough mana.
  • Ultimate that makes all allies in range invulnerable.

Disadvantages

  • Has too many counter-matchups which puts him behind.
  • Difficult to learn champions in game design.
  • Rotations have less value compared to other melee supports.
  • Easily gets kited meanwhile having a bruiser-alike design, making his Q(Healing) skill really low value unless facing melee opponents.

Build and Skill Priority

Rune

Sona

Sona with her low HP bar was not always the strongest, yet with the new support items that are added in season 14 to League of Legends, that situation is solved! Now she is a leading factor in lane stage and team fights like she never was before!

Advantages

  • Has crowd control, healing, movement speed, and damage in her skillset.
  • Able to mitigate any AOE damage. (Eg. Karthus Ultimate)
  • Outstanding scaling potential.
  • Every skill of hers has aery proc with an area of effect.

Disadvantages

  • Has no impact in-game until she gets items and levels.
  • Almost every matchup is a counter-matchup.
  • Easily gets dove and easily gets one shot.
  • Difficult to position yourself properly.

Build and Skill Priority

Rune

Braum

Mustache Man and his passive are taking over the rift, as usual. His capability for everything a support can offer makes him a viable pick for soloQ, as in some games even support needs to do everything for the team.

Advantages

  • Amazing tankiness with his skillset, even without tank itemization.
  • Crowd control capabilities beyond average.
  • In between being an engage champion and being a peel champion, making him great for both combat and defensive plays and protection at backlines.
  • Mitigates opponent's damage and grants his allies armor and magic resistance with his skillset.

Disadvantages

  • Easily gets kited.
  • Long cooldown on defensive skills.
  • Falls off at the late game.
  • Hard to play with mage bot laners.
  • Many counter matchups.

Build and Skill Priority

Rune

Blitzcrank

The robot is always good for anyone who trusts their skill. Blitzcrank stands strong with the win rate since the beginning of season 14, with his capabilities of being a problem for any kind of hyper-carry ADC.

Advantages

  • Passive pressure, if not seen by the enemies the champion forces every enemy to play careful.
  • Great for level 1 invade.
  • A good amount of damage for support.
  • High kill pressure in lane.

Disadvantages

  • Skill-based gameplay.
  • Useless if he misses the Q.
  • Depends on bush plays and outnumbering enemies all the time.
  • Long cooldowns.
  • Easily countered with mobility.

Best Support Champs to Carry Low Elo in 2024

The ideal supports for climbing below Emerald differ from the usual top-tier League of Legends champions. The key is finding supports that can 1v9 because, at lower elos, you'll often need to hard-carry your team.

According to the statistics provided, the highest win rate support champions in tiers below Emerald are Zac, Poppy, Zyra, Renata, and Brand. Let's start talking about how to efficiently use them and why they are strong in low elo!

Zac

Slime Man is played mostly as jungle in apex tiers. Unlike that, in tiers below emerald, it's commonly used as a support. Due to its capabilities to initiate team fights and 2v2 combat, Zac is ranked as #1 in our listing for best support champions to carry low elo in S14! You may wonder, how can I use Zac as support? Say no more! Let's head right into the ups and downs of it:

Advantages

  • The best engage in the game, by far.
  • A great amount of damage.
  • His passive has high value in 2v2 combat because even if his passive gets activated, his ally can simply kill the opponent which wasted resources in exchange for Zac’s passive.

Disadvantages

  • Long cooldowns in the early stages of the game.
  • Easily countered with mobility.
  • Depends on ADC’s knowledge for proper setups.

Why is Zac Good in Low Elo?

  • The crowd control of Zac grants a huge risk for opponents which often they are unaware of in the lower tiers of gameplay.
  • He has scaling range with his primary engage skill(E), therefore the later game goes the more unexpected angles players can use to engage with allies.

Build and Skill Priority

Rune

Poppy

The Hammer-Sized Lady has an unexpected win rate and player amount as she is commonly played in the jungle and top lane. Poppy, with her crowd control and capability to deny engages is ranked #2 in the listing for many reasons, let's talk about it:

Advantages

  • Completely unexpected damage with her Q ability.
  • A good amount of poke with her passive.
  • Can prevent engages such as Zac E, Diana E and so on with her W.

Disadvantages

  • Has too many counter matchups.
  • Heavily depending on the team’s follow-up skills.
  • Hard to lane as.

Why is Poppy Good in Low Elo?

  • As players in lower tiers tend to fight all the time, and almost every single meta champion has skills which Poppy can counter with her W; playing her causes enemies to face scenarios which they are not equipped to handle.

Build and Skill Priority

Rune

Zyra

The botanist is ranked as #3 because of one simple reason: Damage. Yet with that said, her capabilities are way beyond just ‘’damage’’. Lets speak on the advantages and disadvantages of the champion for you to maximize your skills with her:

Advantages

  • Able to solo & help tank Dragons, Herald & Baron .
  • Multi-CC Snare and Knockup .
  • Can spawn plants to block skill shots.
  • Great dps from her plants in teamfights.

Disadvantages

  • No dash/blink abilities.
  • Her Passive is unreliable because it spawns  in random locations.

Why is Zyra Good in Low Elo?

With this easy to learn champion, you become the carry once you get the kills and control over the game. Zyra is a very aggressive laner with high kill potential which also makes her valuable for lower tiers of play.

Build and Skill Priority

Rune

Renata

The second latest support champion released by Riot so far, with her never-seen-before design is of course on our list! Due to her unique design and different game style, even with the lack of damage, she covers it up with her uncounterable playstyle (At least below Emerald).

Advantages

  • Can literally prevent anyone from dying with her W.
  • Good sustain for an enchanter design.
  • Great against fed champions with strong auto attack damage

Disadvantages

  • ADCs often fail to rely on her strength, causing bad fights in the lane.
  • Hard to decide who to use the W at after the lane phase ends.
  • Really slow R cast, making it almost impossible to hit unless its used from fog of war.

Why is Renata Good in Low Elo?

  • Unexpected amount of sustain.
  • Great at turning fights around which many low elo players can't expect.
  • Easily counters melee-auto champs which are played a lot in low tiers of play.

Build and Skill Priority

Rune

Brand

The fire man, all he does is damage! With some crowd control on top, this champion is ranked #5 but can be ranked #1 in the hands of a good player, let's speak of Brand:

Advantages

  • One of the highest damage-dealing supports in-game.
  • Capable to carry team fights and games single handedly
  • Easy to land skillshots.

Disadvantages

  • Dies really easily.
  • Quite low range for a mage champion.
  • Weak against engage champions.
  • Hard to take vision with.

Why is Brand Good in Low Elo?

  • Brand is one of the best picks to go for in lower tiers of play due to his unexpected amount of damage and crowd control being outstandingly valuable in low tiers of play with a lot of team fights and grouped opponents.
