League of Legends: Lol Arena Ranks System Explained

Posted: 09 Sep 2024

As a mode that is available for shorter periods, the LoL Arena ranks also have a different structure.

There are fewer divisions in the ranked ladder and you don't actually need to win the entire ranked game to earn points.

League of Legends Arena offers a streamlined and accessible ladder, perfect for players who want to jump into a quick and competitive game mode.

Riot Games emphasizes that the idea behind the introduction of the Arena was to give players a new fun experience freed from the pressure of having to win every time.

Ranking System in League of Legends Arena

Arena boasts five distinct ranks, each representing a milestone in your competitive journey.

Unlike the Summoner's Rift, there are no divisions within each tier. The rank progression is far more straightforward:

accumulate enough Gladiator Points, and you'll ascend to the next tier. At the same time, failing to rank among the top teams in the game will not result in a loss of points until you reach the highest tier.

  • Wood (0 - 1399 Points): All players start from this tier.
  • Bronze (1400 - 2599 Points): As you improve, you'll breach the Bronze tier, facing stiffer competition.
  • Silver (2600 - 3299 Points): Silver signifies a solid grasp of the game's fundamentals.
  • Gold (3300 - 3999 Points): Gold players exhibit strong teamwork and strategic thinking.
  • Gladiator (4000 Points and Above): This tier is reserved for the most skilled and coordinated players in LoL Arena.

While you won't see it, the Arena uses a hidden system for Matchmaking Rating (MMR) to ensure fair competition.

This system matches you with players of similar skill, regardless of their current rank.

It ensures fair competition throughout your climb, constantly testing your skills against worthy opponents who will push you to improve.

Winning and Losing Points in LoL Arena

Ranking up in the Summoner's Rift can be discouraging. But the only way forward in League of Legends Arena is up.

Failing to rank among the Top 4 will not cost you any points until you reach the Gladiator tier.

And even there, the demotion system has been turned off entirely, so you can only climb higher through the LoL Arena ranks.

Once you reach 4000 points, you are guaranteed to remain in the Gladiator tier until the end of the current Arena season.

However, failure to finish in the Top 4 at this rank will start costing points but you will never drop below 4k.

The biggest change in LoL Arena in 2024 is the number of teams that take part in each ranked game.

There were four teams in total in the previous version, which meant that all duos had a 50% chance of winning points.

The new format increased the number of teams to eight, making the ranked games longer and more competitive.

The difference now is that you do not have to finish in the Top 2 to earn Gladiator Points. In other words, the chance is still around 50% but you will have to face more opponents to place among the Top 4 teams.

Tips to Conquer the Arena

While individual skill is important, the Arena mode emphasizes teamwork and strategic thinking.

But this is not the Summoner's Rift. There are no runes and the summoner spells are limited to a preset combo of Flash and Flee.

The power-up system is also standardized for all players, which guarantees that all teams stay competitive regardless if they won or lost the previous rounds.

  • Champion Synergy: Understand how your chosen champions complement each other. Experiment with compositions that offer crowd control, fast scaling, and robust team-fighting capabilities.
  • Communication: Coordinate effectively with your teammate. Utilize pings, chat messages, and voice communication to strategize and plan each round.
  • Adaptability: Arena's fast-paced nature demands adaptability. Be prepared to adjust your strategies on the fly based on enemy compositions and the flow of the game.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: The more you play, the better you'll understand the nuances of Arena. Analyze your losses, identify areas for improvement, and refine your approach.

You should also consider hiring a Duo at Turboboost and reach a high win rate.

This mode is not as balanced for all champions and certain picks can increase your chances to win or at least place higher.

This does not mean that you won’t have a chance to excel with whatever champion but picking the proven ones is a good tactic for climbing the LoL Arena ranks faster.
