Rampart Apex Legends Guide: Abilities, Stats and How to Play

Posted: 04 Aug 2026

Rampart is the legend for players who want to dig in and hold ground. She's a defensive area-control character built around damage-boosting walls, a big LMG passive, and a minigun named Sheila that shreds anyone who pushes into her. If you like the idea of turning a building into a fortress and daring people to come in, she's a lot of fun.

Be warned, though: she's a niche pick in the current meta. This guide covers her full kit and the numbers behind it, where she stands right now, her best upgrades and loadouts, and how to actually get value out of her.

This is written for Season 29, Overclocked, which runs from early May to early August 2026. Rampart didn't get any changes in the mid-season patch, so her kit here is current.

Who is Rampart?

Rampart's real name is Ramya Parekh, and she's a brash, big-talking gunsmith and modder from Gaea. She built her reputation in the underground fighting circuit using her own custom-modded gear, then opened a weapon shop called Rampart Mods. When a local gang burned the shop down, she fought them off with her own walls and her minigun, and that's when Kuben Blisk, who'd been watching her for nearly a year, handed her an invite to the Apex Games.

She's loved for her cocky, prankster personality and her satisfying tower-defense playstyle. Fun fact: her minigun Sheila got its name from a story Valkyrie once told her at a bar.

Rampart's class

Rampart is a Controller. That class gives her a handful of useful perks. She can scan Ring Consoles to reveal where the next ring is heading, she gets a shield overcharge worth 25 extra HP while she's inside the next-ring zone, she can pick up her own placed gear remotely, and she can spawn an EVAC Tower from a scanned Ring Console for quick rotations. All of this leans into her strength: claiming and holding good positions.

Rampart's abilities

Here's her full kit and the numbers that matter.

Passive: Modded Loader

This is the quiet glue of her kit. When you're using an LMG or her minigun, you get a 15% bigger magazine and reload 25% faster. It's a real difference, since it turns the already huge LMGs into machines that almost never stop firing. As one example, her minigun's reload drops from about 8.7 seconds down to 6.5.

On top of that, her passive permanently increases the health of her walls as she levels up her EVO shield, so the more damage you do in a match, the tankier your cover gets.

Tactical: Amped Cover

This is her signature tool. You build a piece of cover that grows into a full amped wall. The wall has two sides: the orange side blocks incoming shots, and the blue side boosts your outgoing shots by 20%. So shooting through your own wall hits harder.

You can hold up to 3 charges, and you get one back every 20 seconds. A wall takes a couple of seconds to fully build. The base of the wall has 400 HP and scales up to 800 as you level your EVO, while the amped shield part starts at 175 and climbs to 225. You can have up to 5 walls out at once, and dropping a 6th removes your oldest.

There's a bonus mechanic too: your walls store some of the damage they soak, and once they've stored enough, a teammate who vaults over the wall gets a 15-second speed boost.

A few things to watch out for: Crypto's EMP instantly destroys your walls, frag grenades do double damage to them, two melee hits break a wall, and they give you no protection from above. So don't rely on them against vertical legends.

Ultimate: Sheila, the mobile minigun

Sheila is a minigun you can either carry around or plant as a turret that any teammate can hop on. It takes about 2 minutes to fully charge, but you can use it early once it hits 25% charge, so you're not stuck waiting on a full cooldown.

It hits for 14 damage a shot at 20 rounds per second, which adds up fast. The carried version holds 173 rounds, and the planted version holds 150 with an infinite ammo reserve, so a planted Sheila can keep firing as long as someone's behind it.

The catch is the spin-up. It takes about 1.25 seconds to start firing, and the barrels glow with a laser that enemies can see, so it's loud and obvious. Use it as a proactive weapon, not a panic button. The planted turret has 350 HP and goes down in two melee hits, and whoever's using it is exposed from behind, so cover your back.

Best upgrades for Rampart

Rampart picks one upgrade at level 2 and another at level 3 each match. Here are your options.

At level 2, you choose between Combat Reserve, which gives you bigger ammo stacks, extra grenade slots, and access to red weapon supply bins, or Locked and Loaded, which gives you faster reloads and infinite ammo while you're standing behind an intact wall.

At level 3, you choose between Ramped Up, which improves Sheila's handling and spin-up by 20%, or Rebuild Module, which lets your walls slowly repair themselves after they've gone a while without taking damage.

For a wall-focused holding style, go Locked and Loaded at level 2 and Rebuild Module at level 3, so your cover lasts and your guns never run dry. If you'd rather lean on Sheila aggressively, take Combat Reserve at level 2 and Ramped Up at level 3.

Where Rampart stands in the meta

Let's be straight about it. Rampart is one of the least-picked legends in the game right now, sitting around a 0.8% pick rate, near the very bottom of the roster. Tier lists generally put her in C-tier, with some going as low as D.

The reason isn't her kit on paper, it's the meta. Season 29 is one of the most movement-heavy seasons Apex has had in a long time, and fights rarely sit still long enough for a defensive legend to set up. There's also a popular elite Hemlok variant going around that tears through walls quickly, which makes her cover harder to rely on. None of that means she's unplayable. It means she's a specialist: when the game slows down and you're holding a building in the final rings, she's genuinely good.

How to play Rampart

Here's how to get real value out of her.

Her playstyle in one sentence

Rampart is a defensive bunker. Her whole job is to turn a position into a fortified firing station, using walls that boost your damage and a minigun that punishes anyone who pushes in.

Best situations for her

Play her in ranked endgames, holding final-ring buildings and chokepoints, and in round-based modes like Control where you're defending a spot. She's much weaker as a roaming or aggressive entry legend, so don't try to play her like a fast pusher.

Amped Cover tips

The golden rule: build your walls before the fight, not during it. Pre-place them in doorways and windows to lock down a building, or drop them on open ground to make cover where there isn't any.

Stack 2 or 3 walls in a firefight so at least one survives, and angle them slightly apart so they split enemy fire instead of all going down at once. You can also use a wall as a decoy: drop one and strafe into the open, and the enemy either shoots you, so you duck back behind it, or shoots the wall, so you return fire freely. Always know which way your wall faces too. Blue is your power side, orange faces the enemy, and shooting from the blue side is where the 20% damage boost comes from.

Sheila tips

Use the carried version of Sheila when you want to push or reposition, since you can move and shoot with a wide view. Use the planted version when you're holding a choke, because it has infinite ammo and any teammate can jump on it.

The best setup is to place Sheila right behind one of your walls. You get the wall's protection and the 20% damage boost at the same time, and a wall behind the gunner stops anyone from shooting you in the back. Just respect the spin-up and the loud laser tell, and always pick the gun back up before you leave so the enemy can't use it against you.

Best weapons and loadout

Lean into LMGs to get the most from her passive. The Spitfire, Rampage, and Devotion all get bigger mags and faster reloads in her hands. A fun high-skill option is running two L-STARs and swapping between them to dodge the overheat. Pair your LMG with a close-range gun like an SMG or a Peacekeeper so you're covered up close.

Best teammates

Build a defensive squad around her. Catalyst and Caustic are perfect partners, since their door and area denial stack with her walls to make a building a nightmare to enter. Newcastle and Gibraltar add mobile shields and dome cover. Wattson covers your weakness to grenades with her fences and pylon.

One important note for this meta: add a recon or mobility teammate, like a scanner or a Valkyrie for rotations, to make up for how slow and static Rampart is on her own. In a season this fast, you really want that.

Positioning and engagements

Take and hold buildings near the final circle, and use your Ring Console scans to set up before the zone even arrives. Play inside the next-ring zone when you can to keep your shield overcharge active. And don't throw Sheila out in the open, where flankers will punish you. The key with Rampart is anticipating where the fight will be and being set up before everyone else gets there.

Common mistakes to avoid

The usual ones: playing too passively and getting third-partied, dropping walls reactively in the middle of a fight instead of beforehand, hiding behind a wall that's still building (it has low HP and leaves you exposed when it breaks), leaving a planted Sheila behind for the enemy to use, and bunkering on low ground where your walls can't protect you from above.

Counters to know

Rampart struggles against anything that goes over or around her walls. Vertical and flanking legends like Horizon, Valkyrie, and Ash can hit her from angles her cover doesn't protect. Crypto's EMP instantly wipes her walls and strips shields. Grenade legends and Mad Maggie's wall-piercing drill chew through her cover, and that elite Hemlok variant melts her walls fast.

On the flip side, Rampart punishes aggressive close-range rushers, especially shotgun-heavy Mad Maggie players. Her walls and Sheila force reckless pushers to fight on her terms, and that usually doesn't end well for them.

Conclusion

Rampart is a comfort pick and a specialist, not a meta darling, and that's the honest truth in this fast season. But if you enjoy the tower-defense fantasy of fortifying a spot and mowing down anyone who pushes in, she's one of the most satisfying legends to play when you get the timing right.

Pick her when your squad wants to hold ground, build your walls before the fight instead of during it, and let Sheila do the talking. Just respect her counters and don't try to play her like a fast aggressor, because that's not her game.
